Carriers in the Pacific Northwest recognize that your boat does not stay on the water. The policies are written and rated with the knowledge that your boat is probably on a trailer in storage, or most likely in your home garage during the non-boating season. Does my home insurance cover my boat when it is in my garage?
The simple answer is–almost never. There may be some very limited coverage. But your home insurance covers your home and a homes contents from from multiple risks, including those listed above. A boat runs on some form of fuel and typically has a motor, which kind of automatically makes it clear that a Boat is not a normal homes contents. Your home insurance policy also does not protect your Automobile from Fire, Theft or Vandalism while it is stored in your garage. You pay for an auto policy to get the best coverage for your cars. So good insurance carriers think your boat deserves that same coverage all 12 months too.
